Duwet or Jamblang Fruit



Duwet or Jamblang is an elliptical to oval fruit, often slightly curved, 1-5 cm. It also has flaring petals crown with thin slick shiny skin, dark red to purple-black, sometimes white. The pulp is commonly white, yellow, gray or slightly red-purple, almost odorless, with lots of juice, sour and sweet. The seed size is about 3.5 cm. Jamblang is commonly eaten as fresh fruit or mixed with a little salt and sometimes sugar is added, and then it is shaken in a closed container. Jamblang fruit which is rich in vitamins A and C can also can be used as juice, jelly or wine. Some parts of duwet are also used as raw material for herbal medicine for example  its pulp, seed, bark, and leaves.
Local names  for Duwet / jamblang is juwet, jambolan, Dalas, Dhuwak, guava rivet, jambee Kleng (Aceh), guava Kling (Gayo), guava loop (Minang), jambulang, jambulan, jombulan, cesspool (various local names in North Sulawesi), jambulan (Flores), jambula (Ternate), guava juwat, jiwat, jiwat rice, juwet, jujutan,, dhalas (Md.), duwe (Bima), jambulan, Jambelang (Malay), jambulana (Malaysia), duhat (Philippines) , crest, jamun, and Java plum (UK).

The benefits of Duwet / jamblang:
1.  DiabetesàFirst, prepare 150 g of kumis kucing, 100 g Babakan pule, petai Selong 100 grams, 100 grams of  Duwet’s seeds, 100 gr jadam herbs. Second, Duwet’s seeds are fried then finely ground with all the ingredients. When it’s done, take 2 tablespoons of it and brewed with hot water, and it’s ready to drink.  OR, 15 gram of grain seeds is finely ground, boiled with 6 cups of water, leave it until it remains 3 cups, drink 1 cup 3 times a day. Do it everyday until the body feels fresh. Or chopped  jamblang wet bark as much as 250 grams, boiled it in 3 cups of water to be 2 cups, filtered the water, ready to drink little by  little until the end of the day.

2. Chronic Cough / Asthma à  wash jamblang fresh fruits (15 g), take the fruit seeds, and eat them. Do it three times a day. Or put dried Jamblang fruit (15g) into the bowl, add water until all the fruit submerged, then steam  it, cool it down then drink its water and eat the fruit. Do it 3 times a day.

3. Cough caused by Tuberculosis with chest pain,à prepare jamblang fresh fruit (30g) or dried fruit (15g) and sembung fresh leaves (Blumea balsamifera) (25 g), all the materials are washed, chopped leaves sembung. Put it in a bowl, add sugar (15g) and enough water until all the ingredients submerged and cook it, cool it down, remove the seeds, then drink the water and eat  the fruit, do it every night before you go to bed.

4. Diarrhea àprepare young and fresh Duwet fruit  (6g), rice (beras) that has been roasted until it becomes golden (6g), put in a bowl, add enough water until all ingredients are submerged, steamed until cooked, cool it down,then ready to eat, do 3 times a day.

5. Stomach painà prepare dried jamblang fruit (30g), roasted it until fragrant, put in a bowl, add enough water until all ingredients are submerged, then it is steamed, refrigerated,and  ready to eat, do 3 times aday, for 10 days.

6. Thrushà boil Duwet bark or leaves, cool it down, used to rinse our mouth, do it 3-4 times a day.
